What is the difference between a .dres and a .res file, and when was the .dres file introduced? Can I control whether a resource goes to app.dres vs app.res ?
http://docwiki.embarcadero.com/RADStudio/Tokyo/en/File_Extensions_of_Files_Generated_by_RAD_Studio
page states
dres
Delphi compiled resource file. This extension is used when you add a resource to a project, such as an icon or image. The .dres file is only used at link time.
res, rc
Compiled and uncompiled resource files.
I just pushed this to the head of the blog schedule as it was the only one I could find `.dres` in: wiert.me – Delphi: playing Chimes.wav as an external file or embedded WAVE resource in Delphi XE5.
Need to run to deliver my brothers belated birthday present then prepare for a gig with a Dutch comedienne in Leiden (:
dres is for the compiled resources produced by the IDE, res is generic compiled resource
Jeroen Wiert Pluimers But it doesn’t have anything in common with the question posed …….
David Heffernan it does: introduced around XE, used for IDE embedded resources.
What is an IDE embedded resource?
Jeroen Wiert Pluimers well, we clearly have a different idea if what is being asked here. Probably I’ve misunderstood.
Lars Fosdal the ones you add through Project->Resources and Images. i0.wp.com
Jeroen Wiert Pluimers Wow – I’ve actually never noticed that one! I’ve always explicitly used
{$R ‘MyResources.res’ ‘MyResources.rc’}
