Dog in Iced-over Snow

Dog in Iced-over Snow

When the Sun heats up the day time air, and the night temperature is just below freezing, you get a crisp ice cover on top of the dry snow, since the melted snow surface freeze up again at night. It can be really thin, but it can also evolve into a layer that can hold a grown man.

Today it was about a millimeter thick, with a lovely smooth surface with great reflection. In Norwegian, we call this condition “skare” and as far as I know the word is very specific to this snow condition. Is there an English term for this?

  1. Not that I know of certainly.

Maybe in the upper regions or Scotland etc, but I’ve not come across a word specific to those conditions. Interesting đź‘Ť
