Lots of emperors, but because they weren’t in power at the time, the era is currently referred to whichever shogunate was in power (Edo, Kamakura, etc.), with the exception of the period just before Edo.
But they reckoned calendar years according to imperial dynasty at the time. So sometimes a period drama would narrate like “in the fifth year of the reign of emperor such and such” and I’m like “dood, just use the Western calendar already!!”
