It falls apart when he drops the nail gun. To fire a nail gun you need to hold the trigger, and press it against something. Then, and only then, does it fire…
Sten Jørgen Pettersen Unless he had one of those old nailguns that had contact tip triggering, and not the sequential triggering which is standard these days.
Sten Jørgen Pettersen It could hit the floor and ricochet. It could also be hair sensitive, triggering when the back end hit the floor. Anyways, we can only speculate. Cool story, nevertheless. AFAICT, the story was around in 2014 as well. It could very well be older.
Lars Fosdal My grandfather shot himself in the hand with an old contract triggering nail gun. He just yanked out the nail with his teeth, taped up his hand with gaffa tape, and finished the wall he was putting up before going to the doctor’s…
Smart guy for not letting shock over come him in the moment and tough enough to get himself to the hospital.
I loved his “I’m not going to get anything done today” comment.

Thomas Mueller I’ve seen the same story mentioned in 2014 (thanks to Google), so it is probably an urban myth, circulating the globe.
Lars Fosdal That’s the exact kind of detached, annoyed reaction I have to severe trauma. :p
I found a reputable source for the story:

Sten Jørgen Pettersen not everything works as it’s supposed to when you drop it on the ground with enough force no telling what can go wrong.
It seems I was wrong about the story being an old one. However, as stories go off, nailguns do too, a lot.

Adrian Colley It seems I was wrong about the story being a hoax. I stand corrected.
