Nikon has an Android app that lets you live view the Nikon Coolpix P900, take pictures, and in theory download and share pictures. The P900 acts as a Wifi hotspot, and after I connected my Nexus 6P, the Android app after some time found the camera and connected to it.

The live view is all fine and dandy, but the app really is not a well thought through Android app. Any picture you download is not visible in your media collection, so Android will not be able to automatically sync the image to f.x. Google Photos. Nor is the image available for post-processing in Snapseed or Adobe PS. The only way you can get at the picture, is through the Nikon app, and – although the sharing menu is there – so that I should be able to share directly to f.x. G+ or Facebook – it just doesn’t work. That is a real shame.

As for the P900 itself – it clearly has limitations compared to a proper DSLR, and it definitively is no low-light champion, but the glass range offers possibilities. I’ll post my opinion on it when I have used it for a while.
