“The Trolls of Trollholmsund” Porsanger – Norway

Are the names of the unusual dolomite stone formations that have given this place its name.

I took this photo just before sunset, at 01:39 in the morning! Gotta love the midnight sun up in the north! 🙂

An ancient Lappish legend tells the story of a group of trolls who wandered down from the moors of Finnmarksvidda. They were carrying a chest of gold and silver. When they came to Porsanger they wanted to enter the cliff and started to dig caves in it. But they couldn´t make the caves big enough and wandered further on.

The trolls came to a headland and had to cross the fjord in order to reach the other side. But by this time the sun was rising. They had to drop the chest they were carrying. And before they could go into hiding, the sun shone on them and they were turned to stone.

This is a time-lapse video resulting from a 15,000 km (almost 10,000 miles) long road trip and tens of thousands of images taken along the way over the last 5 months. The journey has covered all of Norway’s 19 counties, from the far south to the Russian border in the Northeast.
The Aim of this 5 minute short film is to show the variety of Norway, everything from the deep fjords in the Southwest, to the moon landscape in the North, the Aurora Borealis (Nothern Lights) and the settlements and cities around the country, both in summer and wintertime. The video shows some of the most scenic places in Norway, such as Lofoten, Senja, Helgelandskysten, Geirangerfjorden, Nærøyfjorden and Preikestolen.

Climbing the frozen dam

Maybe not unique to Norway, but I wanted to post this here anyway. 
Last weekend I got to try out ice climbing. I got in touch with Erik Holelien on instagram after I saw that he did a lot of ice climbing near me. 
The local dam (which is only a 20 min walk from home:)) got very icy this year apparently. 

It’s cool (pun not intended) when the landscape take over human made things. I got some close ups of the ice as well. The colors that are hidden from the human eye is spectacular! 🙂
