—Actually, Grænland (Old Norse and modern Icelandic) or Grønland (modern Danish and Norwegian) was named by an exiled Eric the Red. Tradition has it that Erik coined the name in effect as a marketing ploy.
BTW, in Greenlandic it’s Kalaallit Nunaat.

When I was a school kid, one of my teachers referred to Greenland and Iceland as the earliest examples of public relations 😊
