Would you jump into 7-8°C (45°F) cold, running water?
Jan Erik Berglund did so – while alone – to save a young moose calf!  
Berglund hunts moose in the autumn hunting season, but that doesn’t stop him from taking an icy swim to save this one, while at the same time risking to face an angry elk mom when the calf starts calling.  

In my book, that makes him a !

  1. Lars, I did it as a 20 something year old in New Zealand, I slept by the roadside and awoke to find a running stream…I thought “swim”. Dived in a wonderful pool that was the deepest crystal blue you could imagine, and my fingers froze, then my head went into crushing headache mode, followed by my back now going numb. It was a stream from a glacier. What did I know, I’d only ever swum in Australian rivers that are “fresh” not frozen. I was also impressed with the overhead throw -quite a musculoskeletal challenge he repeated a few times. The guy deserves “legend” status.

  2. Great thing to do. Worth getting in water at this temperature. Build up to it from the summer months. I can last about three minutes at this temperature and you feel alive afterwards.
