Testing a new device for mobile computing. Considering it is a i3/4Gb/64gb thing, it’s surprisingly snappy – especially when you consider the high resolution.
Time to wet my feet in Delphi VCL, Metrostyle.

I would like to test linux on one 🙂
Yes, the Surface Pro 3 is a nice device. It’s really nice to have Delphi running on a tablet. We use it now as our main device while being on the road. If possible you should also get the Type Cover. After all it’s still a laptop hidden in a tablet device.
You should stay away from using Metropolis. … you can thank me later 🙂
I’ll be writing code for it, but not on it.
Metropolis is that bad, ey? That’s a shame.
I guess we should start thinking of moving our classes to cross platform, but the code is very Windows centric so it will be a challenging task..
It doesn’t hurt to try Metropolis for getting an own opinion. But yes, it’s that bad. It’s only a pure (and bad) imitation of a typical Metro app. It also just imitates the look and not the look and feel. So there is no sharing, no configuration via the charms bar, no snapping of the window to the screen side, gestures are different from real Metro apps and so on.
“Painting a car red doesn’t make it a fire truck.” 🙂
I’ve wondered about one of these for drawing. But I’d probably do better to get a Wacom.
The digitizer appears to be nice, but it’s probably better to have stronger CPU than the i3.
It can be purchased with an i5 or i7. Mine has the i5, and I too have been pleasantly surprised by the response and performance. Now, if they would just give it a great gpu, it might sell to the masses…
With an i3 it ought to be snappy. My 2008 c2d is still snappy.
Fred Ahrens Of course painting a car red doesn’t make it a firetruck, it makes it a Ferrari 😛
