Bølgen – The Wave

Bølgen – The Wave
Norway has produced it’s first disaster movie, based on an entirely plausible scenario where the mountain section known as Åkerneset (https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%85kerneset), slides into the Geiranger fjord. When the landslide happens, it will take ten minutes before an 80 meter / 240ft tall tsunami wave hits Geiranger in the inner end of the fjord. Similar landslides have happened in recent time – http://www.dagbladet.no/magasinet/2008/03/27/530700.html – In 1934, 43 people was killed in Tafjord, Fjørå og Sylte after an 17m high wave hit during night.

Norwegian spoken, and no english subtitles I’m afraid – but that wave is very scary – regardless of language.

  1. Trolljegeren? En riktigt bra skräckfilm fra Noreg. Kanske inte kvalificerar sig som ‘disaster’-movie?

Senaste riktigt bra norska filmen jag såg var Max Manus. Bølgen verkar lovande!

  2. Wow, living in an earthquake and tsunami zone this is uncomfortably relevant. I’ll try to watch it later this year if I can get my hands on it from New Zealand.
Geiranger isn’t really the centre of the world -but it’s safe…
