A computer chip that’ll survive the hellish heat of Venus has been built by NASA. It’s made of silicon carbide (as opposed to regular silicon crystal) and was able to perform for over 21 days straight in NASA’s Glenn Extreme Environments Rig, which simulates the heat, pressure, and acidity of Venus.
Didn’t the Russian Venus probes simply have built in cooling to manage the heat? BTW. the story of the long string of attempts to land a probe is fascinating. The first few probes had parachutes and ended up descending for hours before the power failed. Later probes made it down far enough that the immense pressures crushed them.
Need to make one that can survive in Fukushima so we can clean that up…
Radiation is indeed very disruptive to electronics too…
