Last night, walking Lucky, I spotted a relatively rare sight – at least for me. A Crane was searching a flooded field for tidbits.

I only ever seem to see them by accident. I was in Amsterdam a few weeks ago and one landed on top of a nearby van. Another time I pulled the scooter up next to a pond near Store Valby and one burst out of the reeds a meter from me.
Sure are awesome birds, and you got triple lucky: saw one and you had a camera and got a picture. Win win win.
There are two of them locally that I see at least weekly. Impressive birds, especially when they prepare for landing.
To me it looks more like a grey heron. They are very common here in The Netherlands. Originally found near water, they now also like cities. We call them “Blauwe reiger”: nl.wikipedia.org – Blauwe reiger – Wikipedia
