In Green Company: Aurora over Norway

Raise your arms if you see an aurora. With those instructions, two nights went by with, well, clouds — mostly. On the third night of returning to same peaks, though, the sky not only cleared up but lit up with a spectacular auroral display. Arms went high in the air, patience and experience paid off, and the creative featured image was captured as a composite from three separate exposures. The setting is a summit of the Austnesfjorden fjord close to the town of Svolvear on the Lofoten islands in northern Norway. The time was early 2014. Although our Sun is nearing Solar Minimum and hence showing relatively little surface activity, holes in the upper corona have provided some nice auroral displays over the last few months.
Rondane National Park
During the weekend in Rondane, we didn’t have the best weather. But it had its moments 🙂
This was taken a little while after sunrise.

Helgelands finest place
The glacier Svartisen with the lake Flatisvatnet in the foreground. This is the nicest place I know about, what is your finest place?

Some Norwegians spent this Saturday, diving in the scariest way possible from a 10m (32 ft) diving tower.
The dive form is called “deathing” (dødsing) – and is a word play on the risks involved.

How TINE SA chose to introduce a new cheese “Østavind” i.e. “Eastern Wind” – produced at their dairy farm at Sømna. My only regret is that they dubbed over the voice of the presenter Petter Solberg – which is known to speak English with a very distinct accent 🙂
Edit: Or did they? Perhaps the intent was to show that the wind even fixed that!?
COULD WE NOT?! Jiiz. I feel for the wildlife and plants too. Must be seriously weird for everything, not just humans.
The inital clearing of the Trollstigen mountain pass started May 3rd, 2017. The secret to finding the road under all that snow, is millimetre precise GPS control. The road will not open for public traffic until end of May.
