Project Astoria will not be in the next Windows Phone version.

“We’re committed to offering developers many options to bring their apps to the Windows Platform, including bridges available now for Web and iOS, and soon Win32. The Astoria bridge is not ready yet, but other tools offer great options for developers. For example, the iOS bridge enables developers to write a native Windows Universal app which calls UWP APIs directly from Objective-C, and to mix and match UWP and iOS concepts such as XAML and UIKit. Developers can write apps that run on all Windows 10 devices and take advantage of native Windows features easily. We’re grateful to the feedback from the development community and look forward to supporting them as they develop apps for Windows 10.”

Windows App Studio

Windows App Studio

“A free, online app creation tool that allows you to quickly build Windows and Windows Phone apps to publish, test, and share. Make changes, add content, and toggle between phone and tablet views to watch your app come alive.”

“And if you want to advanced programming features, Windows App Studio generates your source code ready for Visual Studio – a feature no other app-builder tool provides. There is no better day than today, so get started!”

Neverware CloudReady – a Chromium installation that turns your old laptop or PC into a Chromebook! It’s free, it’s easy to install, and wow, it is fast!

Note that it will take over the laptop completely, and you can’t dualboot with another OS.

It has a relatively long list of verified hardware, and Lenovo T500 was on the list, so I thought I would give it a test on my W500 that refuses to work with Windows 10.

Oh joy! It uses the full 1920×1200, the volume buttons on the laptop works, as does the Fn+key combos to control screen brightness and so forth.  Very fast, very slick, no fan noise, boots very fast, and almost instant awakening from sleep. Well worth a try if you have an old laptop that feels too sluggish with Windows.

WebAssembly – Necessity is the Mother of Reinvention?

It’s almost like p-code for the web. Or, something you compile your script to, so that it can be reinterpreted and recompiled within the browser.
